If you have already heard the phrase “I’m bored” this summer it’s time to get your teen out of the house. Inexpensive options for teens in Pendleton are plentiful so steer clear of spendy one time activities like movies and the water park. Instead aim them toward creative venues.
The Pendleton Center for the Arts offers courses in fashion design and introductory sewing. They also offer free art projects three days a week and their much acclaimed Rock and Roll Camp, where teens learn to write and play music together.
Per usual the Pendleton Public Library will be hosting a free Summer Reading Program for teenagers. This program which is offered every year, requires that teens keep a reading log throughout the summer. Once completed teens can turn their log in for a free book. Yes, reading is the primary objective BUT thanks to the State Libraries’ Ready to Read program there is also a whole host of free activities for your teen to participate in. The 2014 Teen Summer Reading Program includes Teen Movie Nights, Wii gaming events, a cosplay art and screening event and afterhours mini-golf in the library.
If your teen is looking toward the future the City of Pendleton runs a volunteer program ideal for teen resume building. Options for volunteering include the library, the police department, parks and rec and other assignments as needed.
The best thing about all of these activities is that they all take place in downtown Pendleton. If you can get your teen to main street your golden. If transportation is an issue step into the library we are happy to hook you up with a bus schedule. Thanks to CTUIR transportation in and around Pendleton is always free.
