Kate Hill reads in our new nook
The children's room is getting a major revamp this spring thanks to staff ingenuity, volunteer donations, and the generosity of the Pendleton Friends of the Library.
Two new changes are already in place. Recently, Public Works took one of our homelier bookshelves and converted it into two cozy reading nooks. We are still working on sprucing the nooks up but that hasn't deterred children from using them. The nooks have quickly become a favorite hangout for children ages 3-12.
In addition to the reading nooks Public Works also created the awesome flannel board you see pictured below. Our youngest patrons have been quick to make use of this learning tool, creating their own flannel scenes with our pioneer, cowboy, and animal cut outs.
These changes have put a smile on my face but I must say I am most excited about the things that are yet to come; specifically, a dress up station and a puppet theatre. Thanks to the Pendleton Friends of the Library children will have the opportunity to dress up and perform scenes from their favorite stories as well as be encouraged to come up with new plots and tales of their own and thanks to the generous hand sewn donation of an anonymous donor this spring will see the revival of the puppet theatre! Our puppets have languished in boxes for long enough. This spring I hope to see future puppeteers, storytellers, active readers, and actors breathe new life into the Pendleton Public Library.
